History of the Alhambra

The Alhambra was the political and residential heart of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada between the 13th and 15th centuries. It is not a single palace, but a walled city where sultans, craftsmen, soldiers and poets lived side by side.
Its reddish walls (hence the name al-Ḥamrā’ , ‘the Red One’) hold stories of alliances, science, literature and aesthetic refinement.

Following the conquest of 1492, the Alhambra gradually underwent a transformation through Renaissance influences, but its Islamic essence remains intact.
